These questions often go unexplored as marginalized groups often face the dual problem of wanting to explore their identity, while living in a world that situates them, as the very cause of the worlds problem-situating them as Other, and locating them as the cause of their frustrations. This is important because if conscious and unconscious structures of racism/ sexism/ homophobia, classism exist in all aspects of our world, why wouldn’t it exist in your psychiatrist? Why would your psychiatrist be spared ? And, how would that affect you? Worse yet, could the very act of seeking help actually be destructive towards you?īlackness.
I majored in English at the University of Michigan, and completed a Masters of Humanities at the University of Chicago focusing gender theory, race theory, African American Studies, Embodiment, Post Colonialism, Sexuality, queer theory, Culture, South Asian Studies, and Marxism. My background is literary, and I have a love of stories, people, and immersing myself in other worlds. This is important because it could really affect you. Just saying….I may be one of the only psychiatrists in the country that has a Masters Level body of knowledge in theory on marginalized identities. From her picture, I would have taken her to be a white woman.
But she has been SO mistreated because of her color. She received a step up in receiving an education and teaching positions BECAUSE of her minority status and looks, not in spite of them. I’m sure from her arrogance that she has never considered how lucky she truly is. But the truth is she is several steps above a hypothetical unattractive woman with an identical education and record, because it is a fact of life that people considered to be attractive reach a higher socioeconomic level than those who aren’t. One could turn this around on the good “doctor” and question whether or not she would have reached the position she is in without men in positions of authority considering her an attractive woman? Should fat women and ugly women be up in arms for her benefiting from her “ism”? Has she considered how she makes ugly people feel by forcing her looks on them, with her garish makeup and designer clothes? Yes, this argument is just as ignorant as the CRT bullshit she is pushing. But she was indoctrinated by those who teach at institutions such as Yale and U. As a person who is an immigrant or the child of immigrants, “Dr.” Khilanani of all people should appreciate what the American Dream can be. The police would investigate, and the social media furor a remark like this would surely engender would have the woke left hounding this person from public life.
